YOU DO NOT HAVE TO FACE A LEGAL PROBLEM ALONE
Legal problems can feel confusing and overwhelming—especially when the cost of hiring an attorney is beyond your reach. Hel.LAS helps eligible, low-income members of the Chicago-area Greek community explore possible options for addressing civil legal concerns.
Our volunteers provide legal information, referrals and potential pro bono assistance in a respectful environment that is sensitive to the language, culture and needs of each person who contacts us.
HOW THE PROCESS WORKS
1
TELL US ABOUT YOUR LEGAL CONCERN
Complete the online request form or call Hel.LAS at 847-920-4294. Provide a brief explanation of the issue and any upcoming deadlines or court dates.
2
INITIAL REVIEW
A Hel.LAS representative will review the information provided and may contact you to ask additional questions. This review helps us determine whether the matter may fall within the clinic’s services and eligibility requirements.
3
ELIGIBILITY AND CONFLICT SCREENING
Before assistance can be considered, Hel.LAS may need to review household income, the type of legal matter, relevant deadlines and possible conflicts of interest.
4
INFORMATION, REFERRAL OR POSSIBLE PLACEMENT
Depending on your needs and the availability of volunteers, Hel.LAS may provide general information, refer you to another organization or explore whether a volunteer attorney is available to assist.
IMPORTANT: Completing an intake form or speaking with Hel.LAS does not guarantee representation. An attorney-client relationship is not created unless and until you and an attorney expressly agree to representation.
